- INSURANCE: I accept HUSKY, but I am considered “out of network” for other insurance companies, so they will not pay me directly, which means you will likely have to pay my full fee, not a copay.
- REIMBURSEMENT: Most insurance plans will partly reimburse you for payments you make to out-of-network providers like myself, but you will have to submit forms to them after you pay for services.
- FORMS: Please tell me if you plan to submit for reimbursement because your insurance company will require more detailed information than found on a normal receipt. I do not directly interact or correspond with most insurance companies, nor do I accept payments from them. But, I will provide you with forms containing all the necessary information for you to quickly and easily submit to get reimbursed.
- HSA & FSA OK: I accept payments from Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flex Spending Account (FSA) because they are technically your accounts, not managed by insurance companies.
Insurance Issues: You will find that many experienced and high quality psychologists like myself, especially those with busy practices, are moving away from dealing with insurance companies. It is a time-consuming and frustrating process to correspond with insurance companies, submit claims, address denials, etc. On top of this, they require therapists to accept reduced payments. So, due to the increased workload and loss of money, therapists with strong “out-of-pocket” practices are choosing to avoid the hassle of insurance companies.
Insurance Policy: I do not accept payments from most insurance companies, except for HUSKY. Which means you will likely have to pay my full fee, not a copay. However, if you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flex Spending Account (FSA), I will accept direct payments from these accounts. In addition, I will not directly submit any information or claims to your insurance company for billing, payment, or reimbursement purposes (except HUSKY). Even if you request, I will not correspond with insurance companies, apply to be in their network or on their panels, nor complete applications to “get in their system” (except HUSKY). I will provide you with all the information needed for you to deal with your insurance company yourself, including receipts and insurance-friendly forms.
Insurance Reimbursement: I am considered an “out-of-network” or “non-PPO” provider in the eyes of most insurance companies. However, most insurance plans will partly reimburse you for payments you make to out-of-network providers like myself, but often they only reimburse a small percentage of the cost (e.g., 30%) and usually only after you’ve reached a deductible. Please contact your insurance company or read your policy materials to find out more detailed information. Please notify me if you are planning to submit claims for reimbursement, because the basic receipts I typically print do not contain all the information the insurance company will need. After I make a copy of your insurance card, I will provide you with insurance-friendly forms for each payment you make. This makes it easy for you to submit claims for reimbursement, because all you need to do is sign and date the forms, then mail or fax them to your insurance company. Please contact your insurance company or read your policy materials to find out exactly where claims should be mailed or faxed. Sometimes claims will be denied due to errors, such as incorrect information on the forms, incorrect mailing address, or incorrect fax number. If you are informed that a claim was denied due to an error, then let me know so I can correct the error and re-print the forms for you. Please note, insurance companies require a diagnosis before they will reimburse you for services. If you choose to involve your insurance company, then they can request to see basic information about your attendance and progress; but they cannot access any detailed therapy session notes.
